Jessie and I are driving the horses home after 2 amazing weeks of showing with the best the west coast has to offer. Happily, we not only held our own, but became the ones to beat.
Hannah Holik took her riding to a new personal best starting at the LA National. With her speedy partner, Santiago, she was a member of the gold medal winning team in the west coast format of the FEI’S Nations Cup, and overall individual champion. Cupido du Laubry and Hannah were inducted into the West Coast Hall of Fame as the winning partnership in the High Junior Jumper division for 2013. They went on to put in consistently beautiful performances in preparation for Las Vegas.
Sometimes all the hard work, triumphs and disappointments come together to produce what looks like magic, and that happened for Hannah with both her horses. Santi won 2 classes, including the Low Jr/Am Owner Jumper Classic with an almost impossible turn in the timed jump off. Only 3 of the more than 20 horse field managed the 1st round with no faults, and Hannah and Santi proved unbeatable in the final analysis. Cupi and Hannah made the High Jr/Am Owner Jumper Classic look like a winning equitation round. As much fun as it is to watch Cupi seemingly float over the big jumps, nearly pausing for photo opps at the apex of his jump, he doesn’t make the fastest trip around the course. Even so, Hannah and Cupi were 2nd by only .004 of a second!
Congratulations Hannah! It was a trainers’ dream come true.
